About this mod
I really hated the original rank names. Having five captains in a single small combat unit just doesn't make sense. After a bit of poking around the files I fixed that.

-==WHAT IS THIS, I CAN'T EVEN==-
Officers-only fireteams in the late-game really annoyed me. It didn't make one bit of sense, so something had to be done.
Since XCOM is a super-special, multi-national, secretive military organisation that operates very differently from ordinary military I changed the rank names to those based on the CIA ranking system. It now makes perfect sense because, I assume, it's reasonable to send four Chief Special Agents on a particularly difficult assignment, as opposed to four Master Sergeants.
-==CHANGES 1.3==-
Finally got my hands on Enemy Within and was able to locate the file to edit.
In v1.3 ranks stay the same as in 1.2, it's just the file I took from the Enemy Within folder, so it will be compatible with the DLC.
Don't know if it's important or not, but I have also the Slingshot Pack and Elite Soldier Pack installed. They shouldn't interfere as they only add some vanity stuff, but be careful - ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF THE ORIGINAL XCOMGAME.INT FILE.
-==CHANGES 1.2==-
Thanks to GabrielCoghlan for a great idea (how did I not think of that earlier?!) of basing the ranks on special forces instead of military. I present to you RTMS 1.2, where the ranks are based on CIA ranking system.
I have also changed the PSI ranks to make more sense.
Soldier ranks:
Rookie -> Junior Field Agent (JFA)
Squaddie -> Field Agent (FA)
Corporal -> Senior Field Agent (SFA)
Sergeant -> Chief Field Agent (CFA)
Lieutenant -> Junior Special Agent (JSA)
Captain -> Special Agent (SA)
Major -> Senior Special Agent (SSA)
Colonel -> Chief Special Agent
PSI ranks:
None -> None (None)
Trainee -> Volunteer (Vol.)
Specialist -> Trainee (Trne.)
Operative -> Operative (Opr.)
Volunteer -> Specialist (Spc.)
If you have any ideas for changes or additions, feel free to share them.
-==INSTALLATION==-
For XCOM: Enemy Unknown (download v1.2) - put the file into your XCOM_install_folder\XComGame\Localization\INT
For XCOM: Enemy Within (download v1.3) - put the file into your XCOM_install_folder\XEW\XComGame\Localization\INT
Remember to back up the original file, just to be on the safe side.
-==HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF==-
Step one - find the file (check the INSTALLATION section) and make a backup.
Step two - open the original file with Notepad or Notepad++.
Step three - Find "sergeant" in order get to the appropriate section of the file.
Step four - change both the long names and the abbreviations in the file, save it.
Step five - ...
Step six - profit!
Note - the "INT" is, I assume, for "International" or English version. If you're using a different language version edit the XComGame file for your appropriate language (so ITA folder and XComGame.ita for Italian etc.)
